Head & Neck Surgery: What to Expect

Surgeries can be booked in multiple locations depending on the type of procedure.

Minor procedures are day surgeries performed with a local anesthetic (freezing) in the office or the Ambulatory Care department at Valley Regional Hospital (Kentville, NS). We recommend a driver after your procedure, however it is not required unless you are having a procedure involving the eyelid(s).

Major surgeries are performed under a general anesthetic (unconscious or deep sleep-like state) in the operating room at Valley Regional Hospital. You will need a responsible adult to drive you home after surgery and stay with you for 24 hours. Depending on your health history and type of surgery, you may be required to stay overnight at the hospital after surgery for monitoring.
